COURSE CONTENT

Unit 1 – Investigating People at Work (examination)
  • How businesses are organised and how they operate
  • How and why people work in business and what influences them at work.
Unit 2 – Investigating Business (coursework)
  • Produce a business plan for setting up a new local business
Unit 3 – Investigating Marketing (coursework)
  • Produce a marketing plan for a new product idea for an existing company based on analysis of the current market.
Unit 8 – Business Planning (Controlled Conditions / Exam)
  • Produce a detailed Business plan for a new business which includes marketing plans and financial projections for 3 years.
Unit 11 – Impact of Finance on Business Decisions (coursework)
  • Use ratio analysis to analyse the financial performance of UK businesses
  • Accurately use Investment Appraisal Techniques
Unit 13 – Organising an Event (coursework)
  • In small groups plan, implement and evaluate an event

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

This course would be most suitable for students who have consistently achieved Merit and Distinction grades in Btec Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business or achieved a Grade C or above in GCSE Business. It is also accessible to students who are new to the subject area.

WHAT IS THE COURSE STYLE?

This course is an Applied A Level and therefore has a heavy weighting of coursework. It requires the application of the theories behind running a business to both actual businesses and also coursework scenarios. The ability to manage your own time and work to deadlines is essential.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

A Level Applied Business qualifies for UCAS points. It gives students a wide range of progression options into further study, training or relevant employment. Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped to move onto degrees in related subjects such as Business, or Business and Management. Those who opt for work-based training are likely to progress to business related apprenticeships in areas such as administration or accountancy.
