UGANDA 2018 BLOG: Toilets and tears

Today took us back to Family Primary School to celebrate the opening of the new toilet block.

The ceremony entertainment included poems, dancing, stories and singing. Speeches followed and we were moved by how the Headteacher, Simon, was so grateful and how happy the children were when they  able to wash their hands in the new sinks. This was such an important event for them that the Area Director of Education arrived to endorse the facility as it was the first at a school in the area. Sarah Matthews from George Fischer, who have sponsored the build of the block, was also involved in the opening. It was tough to leave, but we are pleased to leave behind happy memories and clean toilets!

Next stop was Kiddawalime to deliver table tennis (and to have a quick game ourselves). All the children gathered together and the Headteacher presented Mr Morgan with a group photo unifying our school with theirs.  More sad farewells and plenty of hugs and tears as neither school wanted to part ways.

In the evening, George Fischer hosted a dinner back at Esella Hotel for the Headteachers of the five schools involved in the Africa Inspires Project. Conversation flowed as well as dancing ‘groovy African style!’
