Student receives the Andrew Lloyd Weber Scholarship Award

Kamila Fernandes a year 13 student at Caludon Castle sixth form has had the amazing news that she is to be the only student joining Arts Educational Schools, in the UK to be awarded the Andrew Lloyd Weber Scholarship for 2019. This will mean that she is funded throughout her musical theatre degree at Art Ed., the same place where Charlie Brookes, Bonnie Langford, Arlene Phillips, Julie Andrews, Martin Clunes and others who have lead roles in the West End. Kamila had to compete against selected students from all over the UK and audition separately for the scholarship. Despite challenging circumstances Kamilla has proved time and time again that she has the resilience, attitude and talent to achieve success in performing arts. She currently studies Drama, Music and Biology at Caludon sixth form and is all set to achieve grade As and A*s. She was head girl for this last academic year and continues to be a positive, kind and hardworking young lady. She has been awarded the lead role in the youth production of West side story, this august, at Birmingham Hippodrome. Her voice, presence and watch ability is unquestionable and we fully expect to see her name in lights in the future. We are so very proud of her not just because she has uniquely received this award above all others but because she is a wonderful young person who deserves to see success.

General successes

Last year Caludon sixth form were thrilled to receive significant positive value added, some of the highest A level results in the city and a record number of students attending Russell group universities. This was praised by our Ofsted visit this year who also commented on the amazing support the whole student receives. They were impressed by the enrichment, skills for life, and work experience that Caludon sixth formers receive and felt that their individualised pathways were a key to the success of the sixth form. The staff were praised for their student focused approach and Ofsted commented that ‘the care and guidance they are offered is excellent and they are clearly proud to play a part in the caring culture of the provision’.
